Japanese FAQ Rulings (Source)[]

  • Q2161: When can I declare the Overturn of this card?
    • A: You can declare Overturn when your opponent calls a monster, equips an item, casts a spell, or casts an impact outside of being called/equipped/casted by an ability.
  • Q2162: What happens to the cost of the card that would be played if you use this card's Overturn to nullify it?
    • A: This card's Overturn is declared after the player pays the cost. [Call Cost], [Equip Cost], or [Cast Cost] will be paid.
  • Q2163: When my opponent uses an [Act] ability, can I use the Overturn of this card?
    • A: No, you cannot.
  • Q2164: When my opponent uses a [When...] effect, can I use the Overturn of this card?
    • A: No, you cannot.
  • Q2166: Can I nullify the call of my opponent's Monster if it was called with an ability that reads "call this card by paying its [Call Cost]" with this card's Overturn?
    • A: No, you cannot. You cannot use this card's Overturn on cards that are played due to an effect that allows you to call/equip/cast them.
  • Q2167: If my opponent casts a Ninja Arts from underneath Shinobi Scrolls, can I use the Overturn of this card?
    • A: Yes, you can. All the ability of Shinobi Scrolls lets a player do is cast Ninja Arts from underneath it as if it was in the player's hand. Since casting them in this way is not casting through a card effect, you may declare your Overturn on this card.
  • Q2169: In response to playing a card or using an ability of my cards, my opponent plays a card. Can I nullify the card used by my opponent by using this card's Overturn?
    • A: Yes, you can.
